FIPADOC brings together the European documentary community in Biarritz (France) from January 19 to 27 2024.
The film "Jump Out" by Nika Saravanja (ESoDoc 2018 alumni) will have its World Premiere in the section "Focus Italy".
The film follows four boys from South Kariobangi, one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Nairobi, who spend their time wandering about the neighbourhood, since the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the schools to close. The only constant in their lives is the acrobatic practice they have every afternoon. Their coach Steve is an acrobat and one of the founders of the acrobatic group that tours Europe every summer with the Cirque du Soleil. The boys share the same dream – to one day travel the world and do acrobatics, just like their older heroes from the neighbourhood.
The Industry Days - which run from January 22 to 25 - are an unmissable rendez-vous that gathers hundreds of professionals looking to develop their projects, find new partners and imagine the industry of tomorrow.
Within this framework, ESoDoc 2023 participant Carlotta Piccinini will present her project "Sereti" in the "INTERNATIONAL PITCHES 2024" section at Fipadoc.
"Sereti" tells the story of a young woman in the patriarchal Maasai society in Kenya. Driven by her battle against female genital mutilation, Sereti questions the deeper meaning of love. By claiming her right to physical and emotional love, she manages to transform her suffering body into a tool for knowledge and gender emancipation.
Additionally, the film "Domingo Domingo" by Laura García Andreu (ESoDoc 2021 alumni) will be screened in the section "Taste of Doc" at FIPADOC, which presents a selection of films dealing with gastronomy, food and eating well.
Domingo is a go-getter Spanish farmer who keeps a secret: a tree bearing a new variety of oranges. Will he be able to patent it and confront the multinationals? In this battle agains Goliath, Domingo has plenty of ingenuity and good humor to succeed.
