Bakar Cherkezishvili (1993) Is a filmmaker based in between Brussels and Tbilisi. He holds Bachelors’s and MA degrees in filmmaking from Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film State University (Georgia). Bakar is a graduate of DocNomads Joint-Masters in Documentary Film Directing, which led him to live and film in Belgium, Portugal, and Hungary.

He made several short documentary films, that were nominated and awarded at various international film festivals, (IDFA, Sarajevo, Docaviv). In 2017 was awarded Tsinandali Award for the most prominent young Georgian filmmaker of the year.

His main values in documentary cinema stand for the poetic understanding of reality, human rights, and social issues. Bakar’s artistic approach combines observational cinema with fictional elements. His main fascination is individuals on the edge of rationality and social groups who are often misplaced, misunderstood, and marginalized in societies.
