Rosie Reed Hillman
United Kingdom
Rosie Reed Hillman is a filmmaker, photographer and social researcher based in South Yorkshire, UK. Her first short film "Cailleach" (2014)- a portrait of a woman living a unique, wild life in the Outer Hebrides- was created through Scottish Documentary Institute’s Bridging the Gap scheme and has won 6 awards including Best Short at San Francisco International Film Festival and been screened at 30 festivals internationally. The film has been selected for inclusion on The Criterion Channel and other global streaming services. Rosie draws on her experiences in her first career in social care working in both policy and front line support roles for women's organisations and supporting homeless and vulnerable people. Her MA in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Centre, University of Manchester and involvement with Edinburgh radical arts collective Forest also inform her approaches to working with people through film. Rosie is committed to exploring a feminist filmmaking and wants her films to make an impact through connecting audiences to personal and compelling stories told with women not about them. Rosie is currently developing a feature / cross-platform project about motherhood, part funded through a PhD based in the Digital Cultures Research Centre, University of the West of England, Bristol.
