The jury's motivation for Best Documentary Award:

In a cinematic firework of image, sound and music, a virtuoso montage combines contemporary archive recordings, photos, private notes, interviews and a remarkable animation that always adds another level with imagination and humour. Thus, in the history of a family, that of a society emerges at the same time. The personal tragedy of a man and his daughter, who are in danger of being broken by role models and social norms, points far beyond the gender problem and tells of liberation and emancipation with ease and full of love. A universal story from the Bavarian province and protagonists, whom we pay tribute to for their courage.
