Ver.di Prize for Solidarity, Humanity and Fairness - Jury Statement
The film approaches, gently and cautiously, although in a highly precisely way, the actions of its protagonists. It observes and portrays a stonemason, who combines in an empathic way grief counselling, art and craftwork. Due to its high artistic quality we award the ver.di Prize for Solidarity, Humanity and Fairness with great pleasure and respect to Katinka Zeuner for her film Der Stein zum Leben.
Goethe-Institut Documentary Film Prize - Jury Statement
We would like to award an Honorary Mention to Breathing Life Into Stone by Katinka Zeuner, who has portrayed the stonemason Michael Spengler who is not merely an artist and craftsman, but who also gently accompanies the mourners during farewell ceremonies. It deserves a particular mention that this film has been made without a sender, without a grant and without the support of a film university.
